There is a helpful and harmful way to look at everything. We have the habit of considering the harmful. We think that imagining how bad it can be will protect us. More often than not that emotional-mental “reach for the bottom” leaves us down there.
Reach for the top.

“how bad it can be will protect us”–I assume you mean protect us from disappointment. At least that is the way I often think. I’m worried that if I expect the best and it doesn’t happen it will be a huge blow. Reach for the top while keeping my balance sounds like what I should be doing. I’m trying it right now.
Yes! The unspoken fear is that we won’t be able to handle disappointment if it comes. And, of course, we can. Reach high knowing you can handle whatever happens.
