My son Jack did something quite instructive this morning. He took out a piece of paper and started writing.
1. Family
2. Dogs
3. Friends
4. My birthday
“What are you doing, Jack?”
“Making a list,” he replied.
5. Soccer
6. A sunny day
7. Christmas
8. Pizza
“It looks like you’re making a list of things you like.”
“Yup,” he said.
9. My iPod Touch
“What else can I write, Daddy?”
“How about fancy cars? You’ve always appreciated those,” I offered.
“Oh! Yes, good. Thanks.”
10. Fancy cars
11. Money
“You have made a very good list, Buddy. I am happy you did that. I wish more people did that.”
“Why?”
“Because many people focus on what’s wrong. Making a list of what you like is a good way to focus on what’s right. That feels better and tends to work better. You can read your list every day to help remember.”
Jack nodded. He was proud of his list.
What’s on your list today?
In your corner,
Mike
This is beautiful. It warmed my heart to read it and to think about it during the day. Thanks to Jack.
