The Pitch

pitch

A pitch is a presentation to get people to consider our offer. (We all have something to offer.) Whether presenting to the board, asking for a meeting, seeking a donation, making a sale, or getting our reticent teenagers to talk, we make pitches.

Pitching can be a nerve-racking experience. We want it to go well. It’s important. And we want to present intelligently all the relevant information. But that may be a mistake.

Our goal in a pitch is not to convince anyone to accept our offer. That’s too big of a leap. Our goal is only to convince them it’s worth the time to take the first step: have a conversation with us about their situation and how our offer might be of use. We do not need to present all the relevant information about our offer. We need to merely set the stage and invite them to talk.

In your corner,

Mike
