No One Wants To Be Told

ask

You can tell others, “Do this,” and receive something between reluctant compliance and outright resistance in return. No one wants to be told what to do. Or you can ask others, “How do we achieve this outcome?” You will receive in return their good ideas and engagement.

In your corner,

Mike

  1. Hi Mike – my experience is that some people do like to be told what to do, provided the telling is in terms of clear outcomes expected or required. The resistance is most profound when people are told HOW to do, i.e. “do this , this way”. I completely agree that better outcomes are achieved with collaboration…regards, Bob
