Making It So – Avoiding Leader’s Overwhelm

make it so

Leaders who are under water, stuck in the weeds, or putting out fires can’t get to their big-picture, strategic work. They are too busy doing other people’s work.

Of course the answer is to delegate. But the people to whom we delegate often don’t understand, don’t know how, or appear not to care. So handing over tasks to them has a scary way of igniting more fires to fight.

To stop the fires, we must give everyone enough insight and guidance to know how to make great decisions and act–as good as or better than we would–on their own.

We need not show them how to do every little thing. We can communicate this insight and guidance in a few simple sentences by describing desired results. This frees them to apply their own heads, hearts, and hands to making it so.

In your corner,

Mike
