Compelling New Year’s Resolutions

Before you set any New Year’s resolutions, consider this: you can only keep a resolution if it is compelling. And compelling feels good.

Resolutions like, “I will exercise every day” and “I will listen more” may not work if they feel bad. If, when you say them, they feel like a stricture or punishment, they will be very hard to keep.

Instead focus on what good-feeling results you want. State your resolutions in terms of how good it feels to anticipate and how good it will feel to achieve them.

In your corner,

Mike
